Playing For Real
Playing for Real is a student organization at the University of Wisconsin-Madison dedicated to providing students with hands-on experience in game design. As the group’s leader since Spring 2023, I’ve worked to create an inclusive environment where members from diverse majors collaborate on team projects, develop industry skills, and showcase their work at events like the Play Make Learn conference. Our focus is on fostering creativity, teaching professional tools, and helping members build their portfolios and networks.
As the lead designer for the club, I lead the discussions at each of our weekly meetings, deciding which topics to discuss about the project with the design team. In the Fall 2024 semester, our design team is around 20 people.
In addition, I also give presentations and workshops on design skills, like GDD and storyboard creation, as well as career skills, like portfolio building and LinkedIn networking. I work with the game design professors on campus to make sure my information is accurate, and have also had the opportunity to speak with some local industry professionals from Respawn and Filament Games.
Below are some examples of the work/workshops I've done throughout the semesters for the club.
